Type

Push-on lens gears and offset adapters for ARRI cforce Mini and CLM-5 motors, designed for cinema lenses where the standard ARRI motor gear needs additional reach, clearance or a different gear position.

The cineAKS push-on gear system provides M0.8 / 32 pitch and Panavision-compatible gear options, including 8mm-offset, flush-fit and larger-diameter configurations for iris control.

These gears are particularly useful with rehoused cinema lenses, recessed iris rings, Panavision lenses and lenses with unusual gear positions where a standard direct-fit ARRI cforce gear cannot engage the lens gear correctly.

Available push-on gears

M0.8 / 32 pitch - 8mm offset

  • M0.8 60T - 8mm offset
  • M0.8 80T - 8mm offset

M0.8 is the standard cine lens gear pitch used across a wide range of professional cinema lenses, including ARRI, Cooke, Hawk, Angenieux and many other cinema lenses.

The 60T and 80T options provide additional gear diameter and an 8mm axial offset from the original ARRI motor gear.

Panavision-compatible gears

  • M0.4 / 64P Panavision Flush 100T
  • M0.4 / 64P Panavision Offset 120T
  • M0.4 / 64P Panavision Offset 160T

These gears are designed for compatible Panavision lens gear profiles, with flush and offset configurations for different lens and motor positions.

The 100T version keeps the working gear as close to the original motor gear as possible, while the 120T and 160T versions provide additional offset and diameter for more demanding clearance requirements.

Gear pitch and profile can vary between individual lenses and generations. Check the lens manufacturer's specifications or measure the existing lens gear before ordering.

Designed around the original ARRI M0.8 40T gear

All cineAKS push-on gears in this range are designed to mount over the original ARRI M0.8 40T gear supplied with the cforce Mini motor.

The dimensions and tolerances are intentionally based around the original ARRI gear rather than the equivalent cineAKS M0.8 40T direct-fit gear.

As a result, it may fit slightly more loosely when installed over a cineAKS M0.8 40T gear.

This is a deliberate design choice. The tolerance is optimised for the gear that most users are likely to leave installed on the cforce Mini for the majority of their work, rather than being optimised exclusively for the cineAKS replacement gear.

If the original ARRI M0.8 40T gear is retained on the motor, the flush adapter is dimensioned around that gear.

In short: these push-on gears are designed around the original ARRI M0.8 40T gear, not the cineAKS M0.8 40T replacement gear.

Why use a push-on gear?

The original cineAKS offset adapter concept was developed to solve a common problem with rehoused cinema lenses and recessed lens controls.

Some lenses have focus, zoom or iris gears positioned unusually close to the lens body. In other cases, the motor needs to remain in a particular position because of the camera build, lens support or other accessories.

A push-on adapter allows the original ARRI motor gear to remain in place while moving the working gear to the position required by the lens.

This makes the system useful for:

  • Rehoused cinema lenses
  • Recessed iris rings
  • Panavision lenses
  • Lenses with unusual gear positions
  • Lens configurations requiring additional axial clearance

The cineAKS multiplier system

These gears follow the same multiplier principle as the rest of the cineAKS gear range.

The tooth counts are selected so that equivalent gear ratios can be used across different lens pitches. This means that changing between equivalent gears should generally not require recalibrating the motor.

For example:

M0.8 60T = M0.4 120T

These gears use different pitches and tooth counts but provide the same effective multiplier.

This means in theory a cforce Mini can move between appropriately matched M0.8 and M0.4 lens gears while retaining the same motor mapping, reducing setup time when changing lenses or working with mixed lens packages.

The 2x multiplier gears, such as the M0.8 80T, are the exception. These will generally need to be manually mapped.

The multiplier system is intended to make changing between lenses and gear pitches faster and more predictable without requiring every lens to be treated as a completely separate calibration.

Choosing the right lens gear pitch

M0.8 / 32P

M0.8 / 32 pitch is the standard cine lens gear pitch, commonly found on ARRI, Cooke, Hawk, Angenieux and many other professional cinema lenses.

For a conventional cinema lens package, M0.8 is generally the most common starting point.

M0.6

M0.6 gears are used on some Panavision zoom lenses and Fujinon lenses, including Fujinon focus and zoom mechanisms.

cineAKS M0.6 gears are available separately in the direct-fit ARRI cforce gear range.

M0.5

M0.5 is commonly encountered on Canon ENG lenses, including Canon broadcast and ENG-style focus and zoom mechanisms.

cineAKS M0.5 gears are available separately in the direct-fit range.

M0.4 / 64P

M0.4, also referred to as 64 pitch, is found on older Panavision lenses, particularly iris mechanisms.

The larger tooth counts available in the cineAKS range make M0.4 useful where additional gear diameter or a specific mechanical relationship is required.

Individual lenses can vary by model, generation and rehousing. Always confirm the actual gear pitch and profile before ordering.

Standard, offset and flush configurations

The M0.8 60T and 80T gears provide an 8mm offset from the original ARRI motor gear, helping clear lens barrels, supports and other camera hardware.

The Panavision 100T flush gear keeps the working gear close to the motor gear and is intended for applications where additional axial offset is not required.

The Panavision 120T and 160T offset gears move the working gear further away from the motor, providing additional clearance for lens barrels and other mechanical components.

Consider motor load

Larger outside-diameter gears provide greater mechanical leverage and can therefore increase the torque demand placed on the motor.

For that reason, the larger gears are generally most appropriate for iris control, or for particularly smooth and well-lubricated lens mechanisms.

For focus and zoom, the smallest suitable gear is generally preferable where practical.

The appropriate choice depends on the lens mechanism, lubrication, gear diameter and function being controlled.

Push-on gears vs direct-fit gears

These push-on gears are intended for situations where a standard direct-fit gear is not the correct solution. Mainly when speed is most important.

For conventional lens configurations, the cineAKS direct-fit ARRI cforce gears provide a simpler and more compact installation. Available in M0.8, M0.6, M0.5 and M0.4 gears, including standard and 8mm-offset configurations.

    Need replacement motor gear screws?

cineAKS replacement M5 cforce gear screws are also available for direct-fit ARRI motor gears.

    Motor compatibility

Designed around the ARRI cforce Mini motor and suitable for applications using the ARRI CLM-5 where the same mechanical gear interface is used.

The push-on system is designed around the original ARRI M0.8 40T gear supplied with the motor.

    Made for working camera builds

cineAKS gears are designed and manufactured in New Zealand for working focus pullers, camera assistants and camera rental houses.

The range is built around practical problems encountered on real camera builds, including ARRI cforce Mini lens control, CLM-5 motor setups, rehoused cinema lenses, Panavision lenses, recessed iris rings, offset lens gears and mixed cinema lens packages.

If a particular lens requires a tooth count, offset or gear configuration that is not listed here, custom configurations may also be possible.
