A simple SDI cable tester designed for on-set use, where you need a fast, binary answer:
Is this cable working, or not?

This tester is intentionally minimal. There are no buttons, menus, or modes - just plug in an SDI or BNC cable and check continuity.

Body made of durable PETG.

The tester checks electrical continuity on both the centre conductor and the shield. If continuity is present and there are no shorts, the LED illuminates green. If there is a break in continuity or a short circuit, the LED remains off.

This makes it ideal for quickly identifying broken SDI cables and ruling out obvious causes when chasing a faulty SDI signal on set.

Bench testers that diagnose impedance, resistance drift, return loss, or marginal 12G performance absolutely have their place - usually back in the workshop when you have time and tools. On set, I wanted something faster: a way to decide whether a cable stays in the kit or goes straight in the bin.

The LED is intentionally bright - possibly too bright - but it means you can clearly see the result even in full daylight.

Power is provided by two AAA alkaline batteries, which under normal use should last for several years. The battery compartment is deliberately tight, as battery changes are infrequent and dust and moisture resistance were prioritised.

The enclosure includes a lanyard loop, sized to accept standard paracord, 6 mm accessory cord, or similar, making it easy to keep the tester clipped to a kit or tool roll.

Important information:

  • This tester checks basic electrical continuity only.

  • It does not diagnose all possible SDI faults. In rare cases — for example, where a cable has continuity but exhibits abnormal resistance or other edge-case issues - the tester may give a false positive.

  • Do not intentionally short-circuit the tester for extended periods.

  • When replacing batteries, do not exceed the specified battery voltage, as this may damage the LED.

This is a diagnostic aid, not a guarantee of signal integrity under all conditions.

Batteries included for NZ customers only.

International customers may need to supply their own batteries due to shipping restrictions.
