12G-SDI Strain Relief – 1/4-20 Mount
A 12G-SDI strain relief adapter designed to mechanically decouple your SDI cable from your camera, monitor, or video device - helping reduce the risk of broken SDI ports and intermittent or faulty SDI connections caused by cable strain.
The body is 3D printed in TPU for controlled flexibility and mounts via a standard 1/4-20 screw. The signal path uses a genuine Canare 12G-SDI standoff, chosen specifically to minimise signal loss and maintain full 12G-SDI performance.
I originally made one for myself after watching an AC nearly lose a brand-new SmallHD when an SDI cable was yanked mid-move. I still hard-wire when I need absolute reliability, and I shoot a lot of handheld — this solved a very real problem on my own rigs.
More recently, I showed it to an AC with over two decades on set. His response was simple: “You should sell these.” So here they are.
This adapter sits directly in the signal path, which is why I opted for a Canare connector rather than a generic BNC. While no accessory can guarantee the safety of your equipment, this strain relief has already saved my camera from having its SDI port ripped out at least once.
If you’re running a brand-new ARRI or Sony VENICE on your shoulder, hard-wired to a monitor or transmitter, this is cheap insurance against an expensive and avoidable failure.
